Electives

Undergraduate Electives

Our elective program is very popular locally, nationally and internationally as well.

Electives within the Department of Radiology are offered in two or four week blocks.  Preceptors are assigned by the Undergraduate Office in the department and specialty electives are not offered.

Electives are composed of several elements which include case reports, self study, rotating through a variety of modalities and time with a preceptor. Medical students must attend our residents’ Academic Half Day in addition to any Radiology Grand Rounds scheduled during their electives.

All out of province students going through the Visiting Students Office please contact the VS Office, Jennifer Tisdall at jennifer.tisdall@ubc.ca.  In the Department of Radiology we do offer observerships for national students at other levels as well as for international students whose universities do not have a formal arrangement with UBC.  For information contact Ariel Kwan at ariel.kwan@vch.ca

Please note that the months of September to November, March and April have a high volume of applications. It is recommended that medical students intending to apply for an elective during these periods of time also include alternative dates that have lower volumes of applicants. .

Please be aware, that elective students do not have hospital security rights and as a result they will not have access to PACS, WebDI and IDX-RAD. Printing services are not available.  However, there are three computers in the department at Vancouver General and one at St. Paul’s dedicated to the use of undergraduate students.
